Meg Zimmerman

Rooted in Our Community

I am a working mom of two young children, and someone who deeply values community, family, and a sense of place. My husband was born and raised in Essex, and together we are excited to have returned and to raise our family here in Vermont. Essex is a place whose values, pace of life, and connection to neighbors and nature deeply resonates with us.

As a parent, I’m inspired daily by the responsibility and joy of raising curious, kind, and grounded children. Essex feels like the right place to do that: a community-oriented environment that prioritizes care for one another, respect for the land, and thoughtful living.

Community First

Essex should be an accessible place where all neighbors feel welcome and connected.

Sustainability

Sustainability should be at the forefront of both fiscal spending and development.

Integrity

Local government should be accountable, transparent and work for the community it serves.

Why Town Selectboard

I’m excited to run for Town Selectboard because I’m energized by community organization and am deeply invested in this community. I believe in the importance of thoughtful, sustainable growth. I feel a strong sense of responsibility to help steward our town in a way that is sustainable, inclusive, and supportive for the families who live here now and those who will call it home in the future. Essex has a rich and deep legacy across generations raising families and building communities here. I feel inspired and committed to carry on that work for future generations.

I care deeply about building environments where families can thrive, neighbors feel connected, and people are empowered to shape the places they call home.

What is the Selectboard?

The Selectboard is an elected, nonpartisan board that serves as the primary legislative body that, in conjunction with the Town Manager, oversees the affairs of the Town.

I believe my professional experience in human resources has provided me with the experience necessary to serve my neighbors. I feel equipped to steward a responsible, sustainable budget, collaborate across perspectives, and to advance critical infrastructure, social and environmental initiatives, while always keeping the values of Essex at the forefront.
